Wednesday Ramblings | Skincare 101 – The product lowdown

3rd September 2014 by naffy

If there is one question I get asked from time to time it is all about skincare and how to look after your skin so I thought I would do a blog post about it. I probably have an older version of this lurking in the archives but a little re visit won’t hurt.

I decided to do this over two blog post the first one talking about the products you should be using as well as what you should not be using and the second one I will sharing some of my skincare tips and tricks.

The Check List

Cleanser – This is a given but a cleanser is essential for removing any dirt or make up you may have on your face. My favourite type of cleanser for removing any make up is a cleansing balm as it nourishes my skin as well as cleaning my face leaving me feeling all silky fresh. I am using the Clinique Cleansing Balm which I love. In the mornings I like using a hot cloth cleanser or a cleansing scrub. my go to’s are Liz Earle hot cloth polish and the Origins Ginzing Scrub both of which if you don’t wear that much make up and are quite young are great to use in the evening too.

Eye Cream – Ever since I used the Origins Ginzing Eye Cream I realised how much of a difference can make a difference to your face and all around appearance. Eye creams get rid of your dark circles and any signs of late nights that may occur such as puffy eyes. I mention the one I am using in my August Favourites here so it is a good un!

Serums – I started using a serum over my moisturiser over a year ago and have not looked back since. A serum basically brings back the moisture your skin looses especially if you are using a toner. (I still need to find a great toner that works for me). If you have dry or dehydrated skin this to me an essential part in your skincare especially after you exfoliate. I have really enjoyed the Vichy Idealia Serum as it is more of a moisturising serum as opposed to a oil based serum and it is very light weight so you can use it in the morning as well as the evenings.

Moisturiser – I always end my skincare routine with a moisturiser. it is a great way to feel fresh and revitalised. You don’t have to spend crazy amounts on your moisturiser. Garnier do a great version if you are on a budget. I like to be somewhere in the middle (just because I am a bit weary of ingredients). Make sure you get one that is suited to your skin type. Personally I use one that is aimed for normal – combination skin as I mainly have normal skin with a few dehydrated areas. I also really dislike greasy heavy moisturisers so prefer gel formula’s like the Clarins HydraQuench Gel which is fresh and wakes you up in the morning.

There are other things in my skincare arsenal such as masks and exfoliators but I shall be talking about that on my beauty channel later on this month so keep your eyes peeled for that.

Hope you found this useful. Remember I am not an expert and skincare can be extremely personal so do your research outside of this post too. A good reference would be the lovely Caroline Hirrons who is someone I look up too in the world of skincare as she knows a lot about the industry. If you have any other skincare questions or want any specific answers you didn’t get in this post send me a tweet and I will give it my best shot.

Lots of love

Making sure moisturisers are right for you is so true, I have dry skin but as long as I have the right moisturiser it's usually okay.

Great tips! I find it so difficult to find moisturisers that are suited to my oily skin.
I really want to try the GinZing scrub, it sounds so good!
