On the Bookshelf: October

It has been a couple of months since my last book chat and since then, I have accumulated a few more amazing reads I knew I had to share with you. Here is what is on the Bookshelf: October.

Generation M – Young Muslims Changing the World by Shelina JanMohammed 

I first came across this book via the MLE Newsletter and was very intrigued. This book is all about what it means to be a muslim millennial trying to make your mark on your world. It is really interesting and gives you an insight on what it is like to be a young muslim away from the media headlines.

The Good Immigrant Edited by Nikesh Shukla 

If you follow me on Snapchat (Nafisah)  and Instagram, you will know I went to a reading of The Good Immigrant which is part of the Manchester Literature Festival. I was originally interesting in this book because of how it was published. The editor wanted to make a point of the need for writers of all backgrounds to have a voice and the chance to be published so he gathered some of his favourite writers and asked them to write mini essays on their experiences of race and ethnicity. It is a very human and raw book. My friend Reni is one of the writers, along with Himesh Patel who played Tamwar from Eastenders.

I am halfway through this book and it has given me all the feels and has definitely resonated with me.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by JK Rowling 

I mean, I could not let the year go by without reading this. I have finished this and I won’t spoil this for any of you interested in reading it but it took me back to being 10 years old and being engrossed in the series. I fell back in love with all the characters and was in awe.

Bloom by Estee Lalonde.

The latest book I have picked up was Bloom by Estee Lalonde. This is all the Ascetically Pleasing book goals you could imagine. The cover and quality of the book is stunning. The photography inside is incredible. The book covers everything from life’s highs and life’s lows. I have read the first chapter and I in awe of how honest and raw the book is.

And there you have it! That is this months On the Bookshelf: October. I am slowly making my way through them. It has been a while since I have had the chance to make the time to read and this little book haul is exactly what I need to schedule in some more reading time.
