Glasses have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Without boring you too much, I suffer from Astigmatism which means since the age of Five I have had the pleasure of wearing glasses. As the years have gone on one question I get asked is ‘Do you like wearing glasses’ or ‘Don’t you want contacts lenses’ and the truth of the matter is, I have never contemplated contact lenses and actually enjoy my glasses which surprises people. It bought it to my attention how someones confidence can be affected when they suddenly have to wear glasses so I wanted to share with you reasons for Embracing Glasses.
The first thing to remember is that you are wearing glasses for a reason: To see, the gift of sight and that should be in the back of your mind. I promise you, you will appreciate the accessory on your eyes so much more than you did two minutes ago. I often film my GRWM Videos with shots of me not wearing my glasses and I feel horrible. I cannot see how focussed the camera is or if it is staying in focus which can get a bit frustrating.
Something I realised as I got older is that you can be creative with your glasses. Take this pair from Max & Co although they are black for the most part, have hints of pink in them which adds a little something extra to them. My previous ones have two tones to them too. Take your time trying on your glasses, take someone you trust to give you a honest opinion and try a bunch of different glasses on until one clicks with you. Glasses are legitimately like a comfy hoodie or piece of underwear, once you try them on, you know if they are the right fit for you.
Once you let glasses become a part of you and your individuality you can really experiment with the image you want to project to the world. I try to ditch the cheesy one liners but in case I will make an exception. Practise make perfect. I know a few people (my little sister) who from when they first begin wearing their glasses, wear them intermittently and immediately look in to alternatives before giving them try. Once you get your first pair of glasses, take your time, try them out for a good couple of months before even considering any alternatives.
Glasses have always been a confidence booster for me personally and it isn’t something you should be afraid off. Places like Specsavers treat you with respect giving you the care the need and are always on hand to help pick the right frame for you or answer any questions you have. So go on embrace your glasses, what do you have to loose?
