If you have ever listened to the raid show Desert Island Disc, you will know the guests pick songs throughout the show, which mean something to them. Whenever I listen to it, I cannot help but imagine which songs would I choose if I was asked to picked the soundtrack to my life and it was a lot harder to whittle down than I imagined.
Wannabe by the Spice Girls
I mean is there a nineties girl who didn’t dance around to the Spice Girls in the school playground? Probably not. My friends and I would role play all the songs. I remember wanting to be Mel C but never got to play her in the performances. (I was never athletic enough)
We Are The Champions by Queen
I was very young watching The Mighty Ducks and there is an end scene where they are all around a camp fire singing We are the champions by Queen and I remember being struck by how powerful the scene was and it ended being one of my favourite movie moments ever. Without even realising it, I think this is when I started falling in love with Film and the impact music can have within it.
Love is all around by Wet Wet Wet
This song is something my aunt use to sing me continuously for years. There was a little bit she use to do with me when I was baby with the song which was cute. At the time I had no idea why but it sort of became our thing and it will always a stand out song for me.
L.O.V.E by Nat King Cole
I adore The Parent Trap soundtrack and this song is so beautiful. It always makes me smile when I play it. It is always in a playlist I make for myself. Fun fact, I am a Nat King Cole fan in general and I think The Parent Trap soundtrack is partially to blame for that.
So Yesterday by Hilary Duff
For the final song in this round up I had to go with some old school Hilary Duff. The reason being is that Hilary Duff happens to be the first artist I collected full CD albums for. To put this into perspective, I hardly asked for anything from parents in terms of luxury items aside from a book every now and then but something drew me to asking for these. I even have a special edition of the Most Wanted Album which included signed pictures from Hilary Duff.
I could honestly go on and go on. It took me a while to whittle down this list. It is safe to sat I have a eclectic taste in music – I also listened to a lot of RNB and Hip Hop growing up. I grew up with a father who appreciated the history of music and would share stories of bands like Duran Duran and Queen so my appreciation of the art stems from a young age and something I am extremely grateful for.
