You know when you’re trying to figure out what to watch on Netflix and end up off the beaten path? The one you go too after you exhaust your wishlist? Those are the shows I adore, it feels like I am discovering some form of hidden treasure. I thought I would share some of the Hidden Gems of Netflix which are worth shouting about.
The Good Wife
If you follow me on socials, you will know I have become somewhat obsessed with The Good Witch (seriously, I am on the latest season and already dreading the day I finish it) It is a show following the Cassie Nightingale who live in the small quaint town of Middleton. I love it because it doesn’t just focus on Cassie but there is plenty of character development for the other people in Middleton. The show is about community, empathy, love and is a wholesome show to end the day with. If you adore Gilmore Girls you will love this.
If Gossip Girl and Revenge had a TV Baby, it would be in the form of Dynasty. It is ridiculous, outlandish yet very addictive to watch. The writing is clever with the perfect mix of emotional and comedy. The actors play off each other incredibly well. Like The Good Witch, it is the good anecdote to a busy day or week.
This is a European show dubbed in English for Netflix UK following Lidia who is accused of being a thief and in turns lands herself in the world of thieves. It is a period show and a predominately led female cast both of which I adore. The show is captivating and doesn’t go the way in which you expect. I started watching this and need to get back into it as it has been on my mind ever since I first came across it.
The Bletchley Circle
This is an ITV drama which is now available on Netflix following a group of women who helped out decoding messages during the war and finding it difficult to adjust to post-war life where women are inevitably being told to pipe back down. (FYI, that doesn’t work) The group of women uncovers something important but due to their gender are not being taken seriously so have to solve the mystery themselves.
My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman
The king of talk shows takes delving into people’s lives to another level for his Netflix series where he gets knee deep into his guest lives. I love how immersed David Letterman gets when he talks to his guests such as Ellen Degeneres, Tiffany Haddish and Jay Z to name a few. You can really feel he is genuinely interested in his interviewee’s lives. I learnt a lot about his guests, some of my favourites are above but I have a backlog to catch up on including his interviews with Melissa Gates and Tina Fey. This is one show I switch on when I need a boost of inspiration.
Thank goodness for Netflix shuffles. Who knew digging deep into the Netflix archive could lead to these gems? What unexpected Netflix discoveries have you made?
