With Love Island back on the scene on this week and I have seen many people on twitter split into two camps. Those who love it and those who despise calling it trashy TV. Now I should say I am not watching Love Island but that I do watch what is deemed as ‘Trashy TV’ and have done since The Hills made its way on to my TV screen.
There is something quite comforting about watching Reality TV and can see why people are hooked on the show. Earlier this year, I watched celebs go dating, only watching it because of Sam Thompson. I didn’t expect to fall in love with it as much as I did. I literally made a point of watching it every evening. There was something comforting about ending the day with a nice cup of tv and an episode of the channel four show.
I do the same with Made in Chelsea every single Monday. Now do not get me wrong, I love a god thriller series too but I am not going to lie sometimes that is the last thing I want to watch after spending all day at work, coming home working on the blog or one of my other project. I want to unwind not get so worked up so I can go to sleep and that is exactly what shows like Love Island do for me and many others.
It always surprises people when I tell them I love any of the ‘Trashy TV’ programmes I watch but I don’t think you have be a certain person to like any TV show. We are all mutual faceted beings and we all adapt and change over time and that is ok. That is the whole point of having multiple channels you have the choice in what you want to watch.
The next time you roll your eyes at the mention of Love Island – remember just as you have the right to not watch it, they have the right to watch it. So instead of getting worked up, hit the mute button on Twitter and enjoy your evening.
